There are over 100 Wild Islands to explore within just 5km of our dock. It’s no wonder we are the perfect gateway for your Wild Island adventures. We offer a number of ways to enhance your experience whether you are camping with us or not.
Kayak Launch
Kayaking is so enjoyable along the Wild Islands Coast. Murphy’s Camping on the Ocean offers a great launch point to kayak the wild islands. Our parking area, boat slip, and showers make the islands easily accessible and convenient as a day-trip from Halifax, or you can reserve a campsite for a few nights and make several day trips from here. Many people also reserve a campsite on the nights before and after a multi-day camping excursion around the islands. Simply put, Murphy’s Camping on the Ocean offers one of the best locations in Nova Scotia to launch kayaks. It’s so good it deserves a dedicated web page. Click the button below to go there.
Kayaking the Wild Islands CoastBoat Launch
We offer a rocky beach boat launch. 4-wheel drive is mandatory. Maximum vessel length to launch is approximately 30 feet. Within one hour of high tide offers the easiest launching, especially for larger vessels. Please limit your time spent on the boat launch to an absolute minimum as it can sometimes be very busy. Prepare your drain plugs, keys, fenders, life jackets, etc… ahead of time and move your vehicle to the parking area by the office as quickly as possible. Check with the office staff for acceptable parking locations.
Before launching, check in at our office, pay, and provide your float plan with our office staff so we know roughly when to expect your return and can therefore alert coastguard as needed. Your launching fee includes a waterproof chart of our nearby area. Please make sure to collect yours before heading out on the water and always check the weather forecast before heading out on the water. Forecasts in our area can change rapidly, and are not always entirely accurate. See the adjacent weather forecast that we’ve embedded on our website that we have found offers a fairly high accuracy for our local area and is easy to use.
Inflatables
Inflatable boats/rafts (shown below) are good for lakes, but they are not suited for use along the Wild Islands Coast. Therefore, we prohibit inflatable rafts from launching at our facility. This is for your and your family’s safety. Trust us, they are not safe to use here.
Dockage
Dock space is very limited. Call our office at (902) 772-2700 in advance to check if we can accommodate your vessel.
Our commercial vessels (pictured here) maintain priority at all times. Other vessels must not interfere with their daily tour operations. When docking, we request that all vessels attempt to maximize useable dock space for other vessels. Ensure your lines are tied so damage cannot occur to other vessels or our floating dock and pier.
Boaters are required to comply with all government regulations.
